Family Game Night

Family Game Night doesn’t have to be a thing of the past. With a little effort, family night can provide a variety of benefits to you and your family as a whole. Of course, the family will be having so much fun, they won’t even notice that it is also a time of learning, bonding and growing together as a family. Comedian and Musician Victor Borge said “Laughter is the shortest distance between two people.” With this goal in mind, game night can quickly make your family the close knit group you’ve always desired.

First, having a regular, established night set aside will create consistency within the lives of your children that will help to develop their sense of security in this ever-changing world. Also, it lets them know that they are important to you, important enough to schedule time with them and not let work and other obligations or invitations get in the way. Game night is also a great opportunity to connect with your children in a way in a non-obvious way, thus providing you greater insight into their personalities, enjoyments and activities.

Next, be sure to have a collection of games and related items available so you’ll be able to change up the pace on a regular basis. A deck of cards is an excellent way to keep things fresh since there are hundreds of games that can be learned and the games can grow in complexity to keep pace with your family.

Create a fun atmosphere by designating a room in the house for game night, or creating a game room just for game nights. Decorate the room with fun colors to give it a vintage casino room. Hang red curtains and vintage posters to give the room an authentic casino feel. Accessorize the room with vintage soda and popcorn machines, flameless candles and model cars. Invest in one of those custom poker tables with a picture of the family in the middle, to make it more personal. Focus on games that will be enjoyed by the entire family to make sure that game night is something the kids will continue to look forward to.
